Coach Maddox is the Assistant Head / QB Coach at Union High School in Tulsa, OK. He is also a co-owner and Camp / Curriculum director for QB Collective Academy. He previously served 13 years as the Offensive Coordinator and QB Coach for the nationally ranked 13 time 6A State Champion Jenks Trojans in Oklahoma.

I've been with R4 for many years now. As it has evolved and gotten more and more detailed, it has gotten easier to communicated and teach to my young youth teams. They may not fully comprehend the depth of everything they're being coached, at first, but the foundations are being laid and they are solid! I use the language and the concepts for Quarterbacks and receivers, but also for my defensive secondary and Line backer. Most youth kids play both sides of the ball and figuring out "what is Open" provides a greater understanding of the overall game. Kids like strategy games and this helps to give them keys to figuring out why they need to do things...not just how to do them.

I can remember sitting in on some of Dub's first clinic talks way back. Was a believer then. Coach is a man of great substance and creatively organized with his thoughts. What I've found particularly remarkable with R4, is how quickly players are able to gain an understanding and R4 becomes the backbone and operating language to our offense each and every year.

Trying to explain what the R4 system has done for me in my development as a coach is quite a task. I was fortunately exposed to the R4 system as a high school player and as I got into coaching, the gameplanning and play calling system was being developed. From the very beginning of my career I have looked at football through an R4 lens. This has accelerated my understanding of football tremendously and allows me to confidently organize my offense to fit the needs of the talent we have year in and year out. The benefits of the R4 system are endless. All concepts in football can be organized into certain play families and understanding the relationships amongst these families helps determine what scheme you may need. The accelerator grading process will provide you and your staff with tools to grade the film you are watching and you can confidently gameplan who to attack and how to handle great defensive players. The H.A.L.O. makes it very easy for all coaches to see the field the same way and take away the same information no matter the formation or defense. The R4 grid makes gameplanning your formations and plays very simple by creating a framework that links plays together based on defensive reactions. I have become a much better coach because of R4. It has made the game planning process much easier and effective. I am looking forward to seeing what the R4 staff brings to the table this offseason.

I started as a Wing T QB Coach last year at a high school in NC because that's what the previous OC wanted. The OC leaves and the HC tags me to be the OC, a month prior to the first game. I was reading a book What is Open, by Dub Maddox. I installed an offensive scheme from the book and we went 10-2. As a result two juniors received scholarships and didn't play their senior season because of Covid-19, one committed to Duke the other Univ. Tennessee. A RB/DB a senior, that season, went to Campbell University he averaged almost 10 yards per carry. Our last 5 games prior to the playoffs started with running clocks in the 2nd Quarter. One Team Quit in the 4th Quarter with 4 minutes left in the game with us on the 4 line ready to score.

I started as a Wing T QB Coach last year at a high school in NC because that's what the previous OC wanted. The OC leaves and the HC tags me to be the OC, a month prior to the first game. I was reading a book What is Open, by Dub Maddox. I installed an offensive scheme from the book and we went 10-2. As a result two juniors received scholarships and didn't play their senior season because of Covid-19, one committed to Duke the other Univ. Tennessee. A RB/DB a senior, that season, went to Campbell University he averaged almost 10 yards per carry. Our last 5 games prior to the playoffs started with running clocks in the 2nd Quarter. One Team Quit in the 4th Quarter with 4 minutes left in the game with us on the 4 line ready to score.

Good to see someone put together an easy to digest process for open areas. Believe it or not, there are D1 and NFL offensive coordinators that don't have a process for teaching this. This system van be used at a pro level.
